Go figure - the next to the last beer that I reviewed was a Vienna Lager and so was this, as I also picked this up at Gary's in Wayne late last year. Never had anything from Coastal Brew Works before and this was a decent first impression that was easy to drink, checked off all of the proverbial boxes, and would be fine to bring along for a day at the shore!
Golden and bubbly, this had a bit of dark sediment in it but that was from this beer's age more than anything else. Enough suds topped it off as the lacing left behind was spotty and concentrated in the middle of my pint glass. Bread, chestnuts, and caramel were in the soft nose as the taste had some hops, a hint of booze, and a light toasted feel to it. Full-bodied, somewhat lively, and a bit cloying, this went done nicely with hints of hops, tea, and some malt to chew on once I finished this off.
Not a lot of booze here and the sediment was light enough to not even be felt on the palate. Canned on 5/29 of last year, this wasn't new when I bought it but it was fine for a cloudy and cool spring afternoon as this would be enjoyable year-round. Nothing awkward about this beer and I look forward to having more from these guys once their brewery opens up, as this originated in Carlstadt.
