A new offering for this local brew pub brewer. In the past I have considered his offerings to be fair to status quo....but this hefeweizen!...a very good rendering of the German Weizen style....very pleasantly surprised. Tapped a cloudy gold with a large puffy head that stayed fairly well. Very pronounced aromas of spiced cupcake dough and sharp clove presence over a slight wisp of limes. Looked naturally carbonated (large bubbles) but I doubt this was keg conditioned...all the same lively in the glass as a hefeweizen should be. Started citrus-peppery then mellowed to a slick creamy moth feel dominated by the sweet spicy malts and citrus hops...the wheat malt gives the citrus a true dry taste and the finish is medium with the banana esters kicking in to ride along with the dry finish...a very nice weizen..certainly more than I expected from this source and IMHO a real contender for Denison’s hold on the local hefeweizen crown. I urge wheat lovers to try this beer while it’s available.
