Pours a dark motor oil black, thin chocolate head falls quickly.
Aroma is deep roasted notes big on chocolate, vanilla, coconut, marshmallow.
Taste follows the nose. Big roasted notes chocolate dominating, good coconut notes, light marshmallow and vanilla mix with the chocolate for a little boost of sweetness but it's never cloying. Finish had hints of spice and smoke notes.
Mouthfeel is big and chewy smooth carbonation level.
Overall a very nice stout, light on the adjuncts marshmallow and coconut. Very nice.

Used motor oil black with a thin, dark tan sheet that dissipates quickly.
Smell is chocolate cake frosting but taste is a little more assertive, adding toasty coconut, darker caramelized malts, marzipan and a little heat tempered by a mild viscosity.
This isn't too marred by any of those Horus pastry atrocities. Unreal.

enormous pastry stout, huge in texture and flavor and alcohol, but i dont believe this is barrel aged, which is kind of cool, you dont see them this strong or this flavored without bourbon and oak, so thats cool. this is a monster of a beer, just titanic, inky dark brown in the glass, oil thick, leggy, but actually decently well carbonated for what it is, a high gloss look to it, intimidating but attractive, awesome label art and the black glass is cool too, sharp presentation. all the adjuncts are right there in the aroma and in the taste, vanilla bean, toasted coconut, and marshmallow, i swear i even see little coconut bits on the surface of this. toasted coconut for sure, its nutty and sweet at the same time, pulls much dark chocolate character from all this dark grain, and even courses along with a little bit of smoke at different points. the vanilla is enriching to this without making it diabetic, and even with the marshmallow, its not too sweet, a rare feat for one of these but they did it. the marshmallow has a campfire cooked vibe, more toasted and flavorful than just generic sugar, and its great with the coconut and the cocoa richness of the base beer. i also get nuances of caramel, a high end fresh pulled espresso shot, and milk chocolate covered almond. this is all over my palate, stuck to my teeth, coating my throat going down, but its also still highly refined to me, not any more sweet than makes sense, without the forced vanilla thing, and still not feeling syrupy even with all the body. the vanilla is natural and delicious in this, there is some balancing bitterness from all the roast which is definitely necessary, and this just feels fancy and expensive, a gorgeous breakfast beer on a rainy morning, and the kind of thing that sets the standard for the style, a style i have been more critical than appreciative of in recent years. this is really special, thanks to my friend for procuring, saving, and sharing with me. strong for sure, but sneaky on the alcohol at the same time, not hot to me at all. lovely brew.
