Oak-fermented dark English ale brewed with Carabrown Malt, Extra Special Malt, and molasses. Traditionally hopped in the kettle with East Kent Goldings for a light bitterness and then fermented with British yeast on medium-toast staves. Highly quaffable expressions of rich burnt sugars, amaretto poached pear, and a tannic toasty finish that keeps you coming back for another. And another. And another.

A slight chill haze lingers over this otherwise clear beer. Rich mahogany copper tones (SRM 17-21) with a thick 2" almond foam above. The head settles to 1/2" for a few minutes before completing its fall to a thick blanket. Thick lac is left in small patches around the Harp nonic glass.

Sweet malt leads to toasted caramel and nuts. Pear is noticeable before it warms to show signs of light oak and rum.

While initially sweet, this is immediately checked by bitterness, repeating with each sip. Both are moderately strong. General nutty flavor is interrupted by faint coffee, toffee, and molasses. The finish has a mild spiciness which lingers. As noted in the aroma, warmth reveals oak, only it has a charred flavor.

A medium body and soft carbonation. Alcohol is light, yet more noticeable than expected from 4%. The texture is similar to oily cotton.

Another fine drinking beer, one which I would be happy to session for an afternoon with friends, or whale watching baseball.

Can purchased at Fattey Beer Co in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a dark-ish golden brown color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like caramel, burnt sugar, chocolate, toasted oak, molasses, and perfectly toasted bread.

This is really well done, with a wonderfully oaky and toasty maltiness, a restrained but pleasant sweetness, and some light spicy bitterness.

This is creamy, super balanced, and really drinkable.

This is probably the best non-IPA from Grow I’ve had, a brewery that I’m becoming increasingly more and more impressed with.
