This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like milk chocolate, oak, caramel, vanilla, and a bit of bourbon.
This is a really solid first barrel aged bottle from this young brewery. It’s not super sticky sweet, pastry heavy, or thick – it’s done more elegantly than that. There’s a touch of vanilla – much less pastry flavor than the non barrel aged versions of A Dark Bloom, generally. There’s some oak that dries it out slightly, and a nicely chocolatey and round base stout. There’s a hint of bourbon, but it doesn’t feel like it was in barrels for an exceptionally long time, really.
This is medium bodied, creamy, and not all that boozy.
I really enjoyed this, and definitely look forward to more BA releases from one of my new favorite breweries lately.
