A: The beer is very dark brown in color and is black when viewed from afar. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving a wide collar around the edge and lacing on the surface and down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of coffee beans are present in the nose along with hints of chocolate malts.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional hints of cocoa nibs, with the flavors of coffee lingering into the finish. There is a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This coffee porter is backed with aromas and flavors of coffee beans. I liked how the cocoa nibs added some subtle sweetness and helped to take the edge off some of the bitterness and roastiness.

Orange County Brewing Co. "Espresso Pillows"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating

Notes via stream of consciousness: When held to the light the body is an opaque black with a thin line of light chestnut brown showing along the base of the glass. The head is a short cap of tan foam. I could smell the coffee while I was pouring it but let me get my nose closer and see what I find. It's bright and smells like oily coffee beans that have been freshly filled in a bulk bin at my local roaster. Very nice! The flavor follows. It's very much like coffee beans and not brewed coffee although that's also present. It's chocolatey and cocoa-ish, spicy with a little bit of a green pepper character, and lightly caramelish. The roastiness is not dull, and more than just ashen, but no more roasty than a cup of freshly brewed black coffee from a "greasy spoon" diner. There's an edge of acidity to it that really gives it that black coffee authenticity. There's some bitterness there as well and it finishes dry, roasty, a bit spicy, and earthy. It lingers but no longer than it really should. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp-then-smooth with a fine-bubbled moderate carbonation. Despite the lower level of carbonation the head held up fairly well, and it's left some thin but wide, craggy rings of lace about the glass. For those who appreciate a bright, in-your-face coffee experience this one does not falter.
