Sampling a cellar temp 750 ml bottle that is waxed and corked. I picked it up at the brewery in Mechanicsburg about 6 months ago, and its been in my cellar since then.
The beer pours a black coffee color and no light is passing through my glass. A dense and sort of fluffy beige head of about 1 cm foams up from the pour. This foam remains as a sturdy edge layer and one large wispy island long after the pour.
the aroma on this beer is some dark chocolate, a good amount of sweeter bourbon and some light maple syrup notes. No really fusol or boozy and no hop character to speak of either.
Seems to be spot on from the aroma based on the label details.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and very fine, slightly tingly carbonation that gently rolls across my palate on each sip.
Flavor is similar to the nose advertisements with some dark chocolate and a heavy dose of bourbon here. Some brown sugar and then the bourbon lingers after each sip. I still dont get any alcohol burn or warmth and the beer drinks pretty easy for its ABV. Never any hops and its pretty much what I expect from the description. The beer is good , but also not mind blowing. Id drink it again.
