This is a brand new brewpub, and a true brewpub at that, in the Bellaire Triangle. With a full and extensive restaurant menu. Counter Common does a lot of things right, even if it didn't hit on all cylinders for me. There is a hostess stand up front, which I didn't notice at first. So just went to the bar. As friends showed up, we went to grab a table, but couldn't till we went back to the hostess to get a seat. Far far from a complaint, but seemed a bit awkward. Service is very welcoming and works hard, though felt a little rushed to order food.
Anyway, there is a long hall you walk down, with the brewery equipment on the left. The hall has tables, that eventually lead to the bar. Big windows on one side let in natural light. With a long L shaped bar, and the rest of the dinning area. A uniquely laid out area. Large ceilings, and an industrial feel make this place really loud though. Still an impressive spot.
5 beers on right now. Helles, Kolsch, Altbier, American Pale Ale, and Hazy IPA. All beers are good, but didn't reach that great level for me so far. Had no problem with the German styles, as they were well made but could have used just a bit more depth of flavors for me. Looking forward to seeing what else they might make. Food is extensive, and maybe biting off too much at one time. The Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich was good, fries were already cold and could tell they were sitting on a warming tray. The chicharrones are interesting as it comes with an avocado dip/almost a guacamole. Though there is so little of that, its was kind of a joke.
LOTS of other things on the menu, that shows off a bit of a fusion of Mexican and Asian, (we are in Bellaire of coarse) with some German as well.
They do a lot of things right, right out of the gate. Which caters to the neighborhood, and already can tell people are enjoying it, with lots of families as well. I very much enjoyed my visit (even if I have some nitpicky things to say) and want to come back, to see how this place progresses.
