Sourdough Pale Ale 330ml crafty can £2 Waitrose 4.2% BBE: 12/22
L- Pale golden, clear, pours with 5mm white foam cap 4/5
S- A brief and mild fruity note, somewhere between apple and citrus. 3.5/5
T- Dry and bright. In fact it’s that dry it’s veering into what I refer to as ‘carbonic’, as in the very dry flavour of dissolved CO2 found in soda water. Some modern IPA hop-zing comes in parallel. And as can happen with beers of this style the hops/dry aspect IMO dominates vs the low profile of more typical beer-like aspects such as clear malts (or similar) and body. 3/5
F- It has a typically hipster/contemporary/crafty-can/modern IPA profile. Good for quenching a summer thirst but overall rather austere for my tastes. 3.5/5
O- Hands up – this style is IPA is not really to my tastes. At £6/Litre it is also expensive. What I will say is if this style of modern IPA is to your tastes it’s perhaps worth a try as it has a clean profile and nothing that’s present is obviously wrong, IMO. 3.5/5
