My first beer at the Dodging Duck Brewhaus in Boerne.
Brought to me in a pint glass, the IPA was a golden amber color with a thin head and very little lace. Nice looking, but nothing spectacular. The nose was a dense, earthen pine scent. Some faint citrus, and some skunky smell to it as well (which is weird because this beer should not be skunked; it's brewed on-site and goes straight to the taps). It was brought to me too cold to drink at first, which might be great on a blisteringly hot Texas summer day, but today the wind kicked up and kept things very pleasant. Once it warmed a bit, it displayed a malty funk up front. Malty, but not sweet. Again, it gave off a weird skunky flavor to match the aroma. Good hop bitterness in the aftertaste, and a decent malt/hop balance overall, but this beer to me seemed a bit off. Maybe it was just a bad batch, but I can't imagine the brewmaster serving it to the public if he didn't think it was serviceable. Very strange. Mouthfeel was okay; fuller as it warmed, and then it almost felt creamy at times.
A marginal, mediocre IPA on the whole, but not unpotable. It matched up well with the fried green tomatoes that I ordered, but I would probably shop elsewhere for a really well-crafted IPA.
