Copenhagen 19/8 2022. 33 cl can from Meny, Vermlandsgade, Kbh. S. As St. Bernadus Watou Wit. Small town with huge beer cans rolling down the streets.
Pours unclear - almost hazy - pale yellow with a small white head. Settles as thin patch of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet, sugared odor of lemonade with a touch of candy mingling with citric notes and spice. Oranges and citrus. Coriander and pepper.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a fairly strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong tart sourness. Aftertaste is sweetish and a tad watery. Lingers shortly. Finish is semi-dry.
Solid if somewhat Generic Witbier.

250 ml bottle, from Selfridge’s food store, London. ABV is 5%. Hazy straw coloured beer, huge white head. Typical witbier aroma of wheat, citrus and coriander. The flavour is also wheaty and very refreshing, but the citrus and coriander elements are quite moderate. Low bitterness.

Watou's Wit Beer
Witbier– 5% - 330ml Bottle – Best Before 10.2017
Appearance: Straw coloured, very hazy and pale with loads of carbonation rising throughout the whole beer to a beautiful whiter than white head which has the appearance of marshmallow from above.
Aroma: Nose has loads of Curaçao and, as expected, coriander in the background. I'm also getting the grassy wheat notes and some citrus and apple aromas.
Taste: Coriander, then some clove type aromas and a little bitterness then the orange and very dry finish..
Mouthfeel: Light in body but not watery with prickly carbonation. Dry and very refreshing.
Overall: Not a bad beer, very easy to drink although I do prefer the St. Bernardus wit beer over this one, it has a more yeast character, giving it a bit of extra depth. Personally I feel that this one is a little one sided and could do with being a little sweeter.

Watou Wit - Served from a bottle into a snifter.
Not really what I would call a Witbier but also not terrible.
A: Pours a one finger head of slight cream, fair thickness, but dissipates quickly
Smell: Immediate smell is pure honey. Sweet smelling with alcohol backing up the back end.
T: It tastes like honey lemon tea with a slight orange citrus finish. It's balanced but a little too bland for my liking. No bite at the end and pretty unassuming
Mf: Quite Smooth but a little watery for a witbier. It is not that refreshing which i think is pretty important for a witbier...in fact that is exactly what a witbier should be! Pretty disappointing really in terms of true to style.
Overall, it smells hugely of honey and citrus but is rather disappointing when it comes to flavour and end. Not, terrible but expected better. I will not be getting this one again.
