Copenhagen 26/1 2018. 33 cl bottle from Ølhandleren in Give (webshop). The usual merry monks on the label. This time with Christmas hats.
Pours hazy dark maroon with big yellowish head. Bubbly. Settles as patchy, thin layer of foam clinging to the side of the glass. Almost no lacing.
Aroma is strong and sweet. Burnt dark malts, candy sweetness, brown sugar, light odor of sweet banana and a ominous alcoholic presence.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft texture.
Flavor is heavy sweet with almost no bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a slightly burnt finish.
Too sweet for my taste buds - but I suppose that is unavoidable with Dubbel wearing a Christmas Hat.

Blind-tasted ex: brewer/beer name/ABV%
L- Very deep chestnut brown, pours clear with a 2cm tan foamy head and rising micro-bubbles. What a fine looking beer this is.
S- Estery Begian yeast notes.
T- Very malty with a slight hoppy lick in the tail. I get little sign of the esters now...
F- Rich, comes over as rather two dimensional to me. Co2 in the mouth is ok.
O- Well that was a surprise. It started so well, then turned out to lack complexity and be a bit over-rich for me. I wonder if I happened to get a sub-par bottle. It was bought fresh this week from a major supplier... hmm.
Bought from Beers Of Europe 330ml bottle 'BB: 15/01/2027 Lot 24.10.15'
Rated/reviewed in draft, now to read the lable for clues... Hmmm, no other carbs but barley malt. Says it's bottle conditioned, but I see no sediment in the glass or bottle... hmm?
