Somerset Brewing Company

I visited Somerset Brewing while on Long Island last month to attend a cricket match. It’s a small but welcoming place, with a cozy taproom and small but beautiful live edge wood bar. The brewhouse is right there next to the taproom, so you know it’s a working brewery. The service is great; I chatted with the bartender quite a while and he really made me (and the other customers) feel welcome.

They had 17 beers on tap when I was there, about half of which were some variety of IPA. Aside from those, they had three different kölsches, a standard lager, a coffee stout, a BBA stout, a märzen, a festbier, and an oktoberfestbier (yes, two oktoberfest-ey type beers). The IPA I had was great, and while the märzen wasn’t quite up to the same standard, overall I’d say the beer is quite decent. If you find yourself in West Hempstead sometime, for some mysterious reason, I definitely recommend dropping in here.
