Concord Brewery "Rapscallion Irish Red"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
Notes via stream of consciousness: Ahh, there's a great color to this! It's darker than expected, but when you hold it to the light you can see the reddish color within the brown. In the full pint it looks very dark brown, bordering on black. The head is a finger-width cap of creamy off-white foam. The aroma is malty with caramel, a clear roastiness, and some light chocolate. The flavor follows with golden caramel, reddish colored medium caramel, roastiness, and a chocolate fudge kind of note. Some minor woody and spicy hop notes are there as well, and it's nicely balanced by a median bitterness that combines with the roastiness and spiciness to bring it to a dry conclusion. It's medium bodied and gently crisp across the palate. Except for a bit too much roasted barley this is a very nice example of the Irish Red Ale style.

Pours clear, red in color with one half inch head. Taste is big caramel and toasted malt. Light body, moderate carbonation, slightly sweet. Excellent red ale. So easy to drink. Could have several. Rapscallion is changing my mind about them. Quality stuff.
