Idawild Brewing Company

Located in the old Barbarian brewery, not much has changed. Same furniture even. Barrel room has been converted to a game room with a pool table and shuffleboard table. Small patio outside. Parking available. Good service, beer was not good. Hopefully they improve with time.

 

these guys, a younger couple from what i can gather, moved into the old original barbarian space and have got a great little operation going already. they opened the space up a little bit in the back, a pool table in some darts that i think was production space before, but the rest of the place seems largely unchanged, still the little bar to order beer from but not sit at, the family room area with the comfy couch, a few high tops, and patio access, and relatively minimal and unremarkable decor, but we were here for the beer not the color of the walls, and the beer was great. i was impressed with both the ambitious nature of the list and the presentations of many of the beers, i liked a smores stout quite well, served with a toasted marshmallow, a little too sweet but tasty. we also dug a pineapple and coconut sour with lactose that was served with a pineapple piece and an umbrella. sounds like frills but it enhanced the beers, showed some level of care, and made it fun. the wit was solid too, and the mango serrano pepper hazy was a surprise. overall the beer was thoughtful and cool. the dude behind the bar was the brewer i think, nice guy, welcoming, friendly, modest, and the service was good. they had an awesome food tent outside when we were in too, homemade tortillas and awesome tacos, hope to eat from these guys again when we go back. the little game room in the back among the tanks makes the space family friendly. good early impression of this place, i think they are a great addition to our scene here.
