Underwood make some really impressive beers and I actually usually like rice in lager...I hate wheat but for me rice and corn often add some interesting elements...rice creates a lightness and dryness that I love.
Can looks amazing, very Japanese.
A little lighter colour than a traditional lager, as to be expected. Ok head. Aroma is not at all light, quite harsh and malty. In the aroma, the rice is fairly hidden.
Wow, the rice comes through much more in the flavour. The maltiness from the barley is quite strong. Less barley or a lighter barley would improve it, the rice/barley fusion doesn't qiuite work. Pure rice would be better ; ) I love the Citra hops but they are a little over-powering in relation to the rice.
It definitely doesn't taste Japanese. But it is kind of interesting. Would be better with more rice in relation to the other ingredients, it kind of confuses my taste buds. Underwood make an amazing West Coast IPA...luckily I have their double IPA in the fridsge, trying it next ; )
This doesn't quite work, and feels like someone has mixed rice with a pilsner. Kind of like if you mix mango juice with an IPA to make it more tropical. It just doesn't work. Great effort though. Now for the Double IPA, I'm confident that Underwood will deliver here.
