Barleywine aged in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel, brewed with a double mash, boiled for 8 hours, and conditioned on a ludicrous amount of toasted coconut.

Poured from bottle into snifter.
Looks: Pours a deep, dark chestnut brown with absolutely zero head, which the brewer attributes to not fat washing after adding an absolutely insane amount of coconut, which has a lot of oil content. This causes a visible oily sheen and makes it impossible for a head to form. It's also cloudy with visible coconut sediment. Personally, I like the natural, unfiltered look. I would have liked a head, but it makes sense for there not to be one, as it was a brewing choice to preserve flavour.
Smell: Ohhh buddy. Delicious old ale/brown ale flavours: chocolate, bread, caramel, maltiness. And riding shotgun to that is an absolute coconut bomb. Not noticeably boozy for the ABV.
Taste: Really yummy. Very chocolate/caramel/honey-forward, with coconut playing second fiddle to that. As it warms, the coconut comes more forward to be 50/50 and maybe even overtake the base, which is delicious.
Feel: This is where it starts to lose me. I think not doing the fat wash made it too oily/thick for carbonation to take, or at least the amount of carbonation he tried to add. Maybe doubling (or more) the carbonation dose would have helped, but as is, she's flat. Which is a real shame because it's THICK in a really great way.
Overall: Like Endless Fractals which I tried recently, really delicious flavour (like seriously, some of the best flavours I've had in the style, he is really onto something) that unfortunately just feels unpleasantly flat in the mouth. Going to try to find Cosmic Syzygy which is just the base beer barrel-aged, hopefully that will have a better feel.
