Looks: Pours a really nice, dark, reddish-amber-brown (if you've ever made DIY cherry Pepsi with grenadine, you know the exact colour here). A very lively pale half-finger head forms and quickly fizzes away, furthering the soda aesthetic. It's still pretty, but more retention for the head would have been nice.
Smell: A bit shy on the nose. Cherry leads the way, followed by raisins, chocolate, and then red wine (from the brandy barrel, of course.)
Taste: Cherry shares center stage with the red wine/brandy, which is more more prominent in the taste. Has a delicious malt backbone with your usual quad suspects, raisins/other dark fruits/chocolate, but lacks some of the complexity of Belgian-made quads (obviously, since experience is a big factor in crafting such a distinct style). It's quite sweet, but not cloying or syrupy in any way. Almost like a dessert beer made to taste like a cherry cordial washed down with a sip of a fruit-forward red wine. It got smoother and fruitier as it warmed, and was absolutely delicious once it reached ideal temp. YUM.
Feels: Expectedly thin, with a pleasant level of carbonation similar to a soda. Only the very slightest burn, which is impressive given the ABV. I found that it both thickened a bit and actually burned less as it warmed.
Overall: I regret drinking so much before it warmed more, because it was SO GOOD after that point. Really, really impressed.
