On draft at WFGM, poured into a Tulip
Pours a clear apple juice
Nose is tart and funky
Funk with a sour apple bite.
Considering the acidity, and that there's a lot going on, goes down clean
Like it a lot. If you dig funky tart beers, you will too!

Draft at Green Lady, served in a stemmed goblet.

Lightly hazy golden orange, a finger of foam and spotty lace, surprising for unblended lambic. Soft carbonation with a smooth feel. Bright and tart, crabapple and oak flavors, drying finish. Citric and lactic acid, zero acetic acid or acetone.

Less funk and depth than the oude gueuze, but it's crisp and lively. Makes a strong example of the core backbone of the oude gueuze. It's pleasantly tart and clean with some nuance, very nice on it's own, but ultimately it's the blend that makes it great. A rare opportunity to sample Hanssens lambic in it's raw unblended form, and it doesn't dissapoint.

On-draught @ Hopleaf Chicago. $8 per 7oz pour. Notes are regrettably brief given a crowded bar environment.

Off-white floater dies within 30 seconds, leaving no lacing. Body colour is a vibrant golden copper.

AROMA: Acetic and vinegary, with moderate acidity and mild sourness (~5/10 in terms of intensity). Bacterial complexity and wild yeast aplomb. Aromatic intensity is average.

TASTE & TEXTURE: Rounded acidity and ample bacterial flavours are backed nicely by wild yeast and microflora in classic straightforward Lambic fashion. Balanced if a bit simplistic, but it boasts superb depth of flavour and nice nuance.

Heavy on the lactic acid.

TEXTURE: Acidic, smooth, wet, light-bodied, Somewhat refreshing. Quite lactic.

OVERALL: Highly drinkable fare from a terrific blender(ie). As authentic an unblended Lambic as I've ever had, and it lacks the cereal flavour of Cantillon's expression of the style to its benefit, but paragon of its style though it is, it still suffers from feeling like it's an incomplete ingredient in a bigger process, and can't hold up to its more mature developed brethren who are combined with fruit and/or blended to more effective balance and acidity. Absolutely worth trying in any case, and a beer that will send your taste buds straight to Belgium.

this was very good, but i wanted more from it, especially after recently having the oud beersel version, which i think was far superior. this is a little sweeter, a little less lively in terms of feel, and a little less nuanced and funky, but its still most excellent lambic. darker in color than expected, the deeper side of golden to brass, without much head or bubbles. smells like drying straw or hay, some honey sweetness, wheaty, with a mature bretty profile but a lot less of the sourness than i was expected, odd in the style, but the acidity here is only minor. the flavor is true to the nose, bringing a floral bretty yeast element thats pretty cool, but there is still more sweetness here than i like, surprising for its age, but such is the case. more tang than pucker to it, which makes it maybe simultaneously more drinkable but less engaging. i like the rustic nature of this, i taste the malt itself more than i have in other unblended lambic types, and i think thats a huge plus here, but overall i much prefer their gueuze or fruited lambics to this one, it just doesnt quite have the depth that make the other ones so special.

Pours gold. Smells like funky rich wood like aromas. Taste goes a bit lemony. All good. Mouthfeel is tart ever so slight mushroom. Different from other lambics. Nice. Enjoyed it.

Draft 4oz pour into a tulip. Slightly hazy golden with very light bubbles, no head. Funky barnyard nose follows up with a slight gorgonzola tongue. I never knew a beer could have these flavors and be so pleasing. Does not look carbonates but you can feel it. Pricey but worth it.
