In our hurry we forget to breathe, and hold joy a moment longer, simple pleasures such as these plums lovely as a poem.
Process & tasting notes: Plums Lovely as a Poem (2022) is our second iteration of a saison aged in wine barrels and refermented on yellow plums from Mike Culp’s Greenlane Farm in the Twenty Mile Bench appellation of the Niagara region.
This years’ vintage is a combination of mature buckwheat saisons made exclusively with hops from France, coriander seed, our mixed-fermentation cellar culture, and golden plums at their most beautiful ripeness.
Plums Lovely as a Poem preserves the experience of biting into a fresh golden plum bought from a farmstand mid-season and left on a sunlit kitchen counter to ripen to perfection. It is an expression of the fruit’s aroma, soft flesh, and cleansing acidity. The Brettanomyces, coriander seed, and barrel character all support this in their own humble, near-invisible way.
This year’s fruit was so beautiful, none could stand in its light. The finished beer transports us back to the delightful moment our teeth pierced the skin of the deep golden plums at Mike’s Vineland Station orchard.
Serving suggestions: Suspend the yeast for a more intense funk or decant for a purer expression of the fruit character. Enjoy in a white wine glass.

At Gastropub on Erie Street East in nearby downtown Windsor. Chilled and on tap, 4oz in a flight of four beers. My second beer from the Dundas, Ontario brewery.
