A healthy nose of pine forest, citrus, and herbal from a combination of Columbus, Centennial, Cascade in the fermenter with some Simcoe in as well. The malt character is a combo of Rabbit Hill Dark Cara Rye malt and black prinz. Bitter notes from the dark Malta and hops combine to create a pleasant character with a subtle finish.

Pint pour on draught at Meyers Lighthouse. It is nearly black with some cola hues at the bottom of the glass, and sports a thin, light khaki head and lots of elegant lacing. Sadly, there is not much to the smell; mostly subdued citrus and pine needles. The taste includes tart, bitter lemon and grapefruit with a heavy dose of pine sap. While there is a hint of malt sweetness, I wish it was more pronounced to balance the citrus and pine. The North West hops provide strong bitterness throughout. This ale is crisp and lite with pleasant carbonation, and it is very drinkable at 5.6% ABV. Overall, Lights Out is a solid Black IPA but it suffers by comparison to local examples such as Carton's Epitome and Slack Tide's Knockdown.
