Received as a gift in August 2022 and drunk shortly after.
This was drunk in company so the tasting notes are perfunctory at best. That said, this beer is playing in Australia's ever-growing mid-strength segment, a category that has skyrocketed to the point a mid-strength beer is Australia's best-selling beer, so competition is fierce. Unfortunately, imitation is not flattery in many cases, and while the best-selling beer is a largely tasteless macro for the masses, craft brewers are held to higher standards, and this one just doesn't pass the test.
It's an orangey yellow colour with a quickly disappearing, cratered head. There's obvious and over-excited carbonation. It has muted, washed-out, tropical flavours. It's thin and watery. and not particularly enjoyable. The nose is nice - the benefits of the aroma hops are clearly there - but it is the one and only high point of the beer. The mouthfeel is sharp and prickly, like a soft drink, and given these session beers are designed for bulk consumption, it misses the mark there too.
Overall, I was not particularly impressed with this one, just in case that wasn't obvious.
Cheers!
