Dark red brew. Huge nose of something woody along with the fruity aroma. Taste is celery and cedar with a hint of raisins. Roast malt, tangy. Chinook and other hops give it a rather bitter finish. Powerful and complex stew of flavors.
The malt flavor is what's really interesting about this. It's really nutty with a little of the walnut pith astringency. Brewer says they use malts as for a Belgian Dubbel. On tap at the brewery tasting room on El Cajon Blvd.
