Deep ruby brown color where light passes through the edge of the glass. Appears to be clear. Modest and short-lived beige head. Minimal spotty lacing on the glass.
Dark caramel and graham crackers describe the smell best. A touch of sugar and chocolate, but it is more dark, toasted bread to the nose.
Quite dry compared to the smell. There's Baker's chocolate, but without the bitterness. Think chocolate cake without any sugar. The body leans rich and the carbonation is elevated, particularly for the style. The finish does draw out some hop bitterness (according to the bottle the IBU is 69) but the aftertaste is relatively short. It's an interesting and complicated combination that seems to work well. This is the best of the beers I've tried from this brewery.
