my first from hetty alice, not sure ive heard of them before, man portland pops hard! collaboration with obelisk in astoria, which is where i had this, a really nice beer, style hybrid between old world brown and oatmeal stout, really well done, smooth with the oats adding a lot to the texture, not too dark or roasty so some middle malts shine here too, excellent balance, frothiness of the mouthfeel, and overall drinkability, impressive specimen. deep brown in color with reddish edges, super creamy burlap colored head, and a nice nuttiness to the nose along with dark cocoa, fig, and raisin notes, subtly english from the yeast but the ferment is mild and clean, smells kind of minimal but extremely tidy. a bit of roast running through it but light overall for something called a stout. a lot of english character from the grain, minerals, toast, warm bread, milk chocolate, oat richness for sure through it, faint coffee but very light roast even there, and an organic dark chocolate vibe later, smooth as can be to drink on, slightly woody to me, wet wood actually, and dry on the back end. lightly doughy, soft in feel, and very drinkable, definitely seems halfway between brown ale and oatmeal stout, a nice genre bender here, the faintest bit of hops at the end. very well done, will look for more from hetty alice...
