Man, what the hell is an Oatmeal Black Lager? And at 8%?!?! Wild. I’m drinking this as part of my RI brewery journey, my first time trying Providence Brewing Company. Let’s see what this is all about
Pours a very dark brown with 2 fingers of creamy light tan head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
It’s definitely roasty in the nose but there’s a nice sweetness to it. I’m picking up on aromas of spent coffee beans, dark bread, caramel, herbal hops, milk chocolate, and light raisin
In taste it’s a bit less defined but still decent. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting milk chocolate, roasted coffee, dark toast, and toffee. The swallow brings notes of herbal hops, burnt coffee, cocoa powder, and caramel
A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes sticky and a bit sweet
I mean, it’s alright, but did it need to be 8%? This should be easy drinking but it kinda killed it. Oh well
