The roots of this style lie with American home brewers who brew it with a big malt presence. This American Brown Ale has a malt chocolate punch with a hint of coffee. The lightly hopped fruity character allows the malt to stand out. The full-bodied, warming feel of this dark ale is reflected in its ruby-tinged darkness.

Purchased at the brewery in September 2022 and drunk in August 2023.
L: Maple syrup scarlett-brown with an off-white head. It's utterly opaque, but some tiny, fast-moving bubbles can be seen right at the edge of the glass.
S: Toffee-flavoured malt, dark chocolate and the slightest hint of coffee. I didn't trust my nose, and so I looked at the can. Yep, it has coffee in it!
T: Burnt, smokey toffee with a fruity, tangy end note. There's some coffee in there, but only the slightest amount. Bitter, dark chocolate. Very, very nice.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, but the swallow has carbonic prickle. The mouth profile fits the bitter, burnt taste profile very well.
O: This is an excellent brown ale with a bitter, burnt toffee and chocolate hit. I could drink a lot of this.
Cheers!
