Steam Noir is our riff on a traditional steam beer. We took the same steam concept of fermenting a lager at warmer temperatures and applied it to a dark lager. This version was brewed with pilsner, Maris Otter, chocolate, caramel and spelt malts. It was then hopped with Styrian Gold, Cascade and Tettnanger. Steam Noir was put into a blend of port and red wine barrels cold, then allowed to naturally warm until it was finished fermenting. Once finished, Steam Noir was lagered in barrels cold for an additional four weeks.

16oz can purchased at Community Pint, in Spokane, WA, about 2 months ago (kinda forgot about it).

Poured into a pint sized mug, this was a dark brown color, with a thin, dark tan head. Said head quickly receded to a skiff of foam atop the beer. The pour was strangely syrupy. There's definitely a layer of gunk at the bottom of the can!

Aroma of roasty, dark malts.

Weird syrupy flavor and mouthfeel, like someone brewed with an extract that resolutely refused to ferment.

This is a mess, and is about to be poured down the sink.

Very dark brown, light brown head, had to coerce with vigorous pour, it was pretty quick to dissipate.

Nose is chalky cocoa, light roast, very light raspberry like note.

Graham cracker like quality, some light roast, light earthy chocolate, touch of oak tannin and red wine on the finish; the dark malt is mostly present in aftertaste with the graham cracker out front.

Mouthfeel is light medium; creamy and smooth, drying on the tongue, light bitterness.
