Black hefeweizen
Schwarzweizen is our black hefeweizen ale that was brewed with pilsner, pale chocolate, caramelized oat, and wheat malts as well as flaked wheat. Schwarzweizen was hopped in the kettle with Spalt and fermented cool with our favorite German hefeweizen strain.

Appearance: Pours coffee colored with a two finger ecru head; good retention and a few shards linger
Smell: Roasted malt brings a dark bread and slightly nutty character
Taste: Dark bread and toasted nuts along with a developing a slightly sour wheat aspect
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate to high carbonation
Overall: I really enjoyed this beer but it tasted more like a Shwarz than a Hefe as there was no banana flavor

Hazy milk chocolate brown. Good roasted malt aroma and flavor with light yeasty banana and clove character. Decent balance; Schwarzbier > Hefeweizen. Light to medium bodied and lightly creamy. Interesting blend.

A dark Hefe. Pours a brown-amber color that is hazy. Little head when poured and you can see the bubbles coming up in the glass. They are trying to no avail. The smell was unappealing maybe burnt or skunk. The flavor made up for that. Heavily roasted wheat has a great taste, with little aftertaste. Definitely a light feel. It's enjoyable but not something I'd seek out.

16oz can from Tavour. Dark brown pour, thin beige pour settles down to a silky layer. Toasty/toasty malt aroma, dark bread, nutty. Taste retains the mellow bitterness from the dark malts, notes of chocolate and cocoa. Really nice to see a dunkel weizen on these shores.
