Cloudy pink-orange color. Poured a short head that dropped down to a patchy skiff in half a minute. Too cloudy to see the carbonation level. Left strings and dots of lace.
The smell starts with a funk that shifts to the smell of fresh unclarified apple juice straight from the juicer. There is some spice somewhere between cinnamon and mace that is a little biting in the nostrils. A mild, sweet orange smell shows up after a few seconds. Swirling the glass boosts the funk a bit and the apple a lot.
Very strange flavor. There is a bit of old fruit, possibly orange at one time but now it tastes a bit spoiled. Lightly sweet. There is a stronger bitter than the 15 IBU listed on the label, but tastes harsh like it came from something in the process not related to hops. There is an odd malt flavor, this should be wheat, but it also has an odd chemical flavor. Something else tastes a bit like a mint flavored mouthwash. There is also a slight pepper burn. The aftertaste has a half second long burst of orange and then it drops back to a muddy chemical mix.
Mild tongue tingling. Not very foamy; what foam did form seemed to be mixed in with the fluid rather than rising to the top. Very strange. A bit gummy.
All I can think of is that this was improperly stored somewhere that had some extreme temperature cycles before I got it from the local liquor store. I don't think I will be trying it again to test out this theory.
