a really class english mild here, chestnut reddish brown with a fat inch of off white foam on it, looks great in the glass, is true to style with a robust and fresh english ale yeast strain, a simple and familiar malt profile maybe not quite as dark as some of these, but in a nice middle ground that plays in the english brown ale space, but still has a toasty maris otter type pale grain note, but the kicker here is that its aged on amburana wood, a highly aromatic and distinctive profile that we more commonly see in huge stouts, so i was stoked to experience it in something much lighter, flavorful as this one is. the wood marries in really well, light vanilla and maple notes up front, great with the english grain, then it pulls some cocoa out of the malt, comes on nutty like hazelnuts, then smooths the finish like an oak maturation might, really long and interesting, deeply earthy but also kind of fresh and peppy still. something just baked about this, crusty bread, nice fermentation profile, minimally hoppy, super drinkable at this low abv but not minimal enough to feel like anything is being sacrificed. very clever and thoughtful brew, the wood treatment makes this unique, but it would stand on its own without it too. if you havent been here yet, go check them out, some of the best food in town and some really fun beers!
