4 Horsemen (Red) is a collaboration with our good friends from Pompano Beach Brewing Co. We used organic cocoa nibs, fresh strawberry, ripened bananas, and Ugandan vanilla for this beer. Notes of chocolate, banana, strawberry, and vanilla. This beer is super complex with lots of fruit character and tons of chocolate.

Viscous, motor oil pour. While there isn't much agitated head on the pour, there is a small buildup of ivory white bubbles that settle around the inside of the glass. Additionally, there's solid retention as the beer falls.
The nose hits as-advertised; chocolate/strawberry/banana smoothie. There's a punch of acidity from the strawberry to cut the heavy banana sweetness, but riding that backbone is a subtle dryness from the chocolate that both adds a layer of complexity but also carries the malty base to add a touch of roast and earthiness.
The palate starts with chocolate and banana, a classic combo. Following closely is strawberry that isn't overpowering, and like with the nose brings with it enough acid to cut the richness of the initial flavors. The finish hits with some noticeable bitterness, but it's not off-putting. I would've liked for a bit more of that banana to linger into the finish, but the contrast from start to finish is nice.
The mouthfeel is solid; not overly heavy, and while it coats the palate it is fairly quick to trail off. As mentioned, the finish brings bitterness and a touch of dryness from those cocoa nibs, as well as a comfortable warmth as a reminder of that 12.4% finishing ABV.
