(Notes of 15/07/07) Tasted by a half-pint at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield; served by a sparkler-pull.

A: very dark orangey golden or tawny hue, coming with an off-white creamy head on top of rather low carbonation.
S: lightly syrupy malts, very sweet plums and apples, with a touch of muddy earthiness in the background - unbalanced, but quite rich in the malt apartment.
T: lightly peaty and smoked nutty upfront; as the smoky malty edge gets more assertive, a lightly sour-tangy fruitiness stays on the side to allow a flow of dried herbal/earthy bitterness to deepen down the palate, striking an intriguing balance with the smoked malty foretaste.
M&D: very soft on the carbonation, medium-bodied, with hops, smokiness and a dry palate, this is a tasty and more-ish Bitter. BTW, the "peated smokiness" is more like a natural by-product of the yeast's intervention, I guess.
