Handpump halfpint at the London Drinker festival.

A: Black with some bright red highlights; solid, fine tan head. Good lace.

S: Wow - heady spiced rum, dark chocolate, and molasses. Crazy for being under 5%.

T: Rum jumps out, with more standard chocolate and coffee coming through right behind. Bittersweet, chocolatey finish. The rum is delicious without being the least bit boozy. Great stuff.

M: Smooth, soft, lightly carbonated. Nice.

O: I think I liked this as much or more than any rum-barrel beer I've ever had before. It was hugely flavorful, but also hugely drinkable. I'd love to down a couple pints some time in the future.

Cheers!

On cask at the Rat and Ratchet in Huddersfield.

Pours a dark reddish-black with the thick head one comes to expect of good Real Ale.

The nose is exceptional with an enormous amount of rum and nutmeg aromas coming through. This honestly smells more like hot buttered rum than beer.

The taste almost balances bitter with sweet (it was a little too sweet for my own tastes), with flavors of caramel, toffee, rum, hard candy, and peanuts.

Overall a wonderfully made beer, but much too intense for my own personal tastes. The rum was a little overpowering, and the sweetness really prevented me from wanting another. But I continue to be impressed by Boggart.
