Handpump halfpint at the London Drinker festival. I loved their Rum Porter last year, and I love Dark Milds, so hopes are high.
A: Dark brown, nearly black body with a finger of dense of-white head. Great retention for cask. Solid.
S: Sweet fruity malt. Chocolate-covered raisins dominate, with some caramel and cherry as well. Really, really nice.
T: Just as delicious as the nose promised. Complex interplay of stone fruit and lightly roasted malt, with a bittersweet, nutty finish. Rich and full for a mild.
M: Creamy, nicely carbonated medium body. Excellent.
O: This was one of my favorite beers of the festival, and I wasn't the least bit surprised to see that it was one of the top runners-up for the best of show medal. It's amazing how much rich flavor can be packed into a session beer, and how perfectly the cask serving method highlights every nuance.
Cheers!
