Draft offering at Monk's served in a standard pint. The brew appears a hazy amber to brown color with a tan stained creamy topping. Some spotty patches of lace stick to the glass.
The smell is sweet with lots of smoke to contrast. There is quite a layering of intricate smokiness here, not just an assault of campfire in your face. Malty caramel to toffee-like sweetness rounds out the aroma.
The taste is all smoke with a pleasant fruity attribute before blending to lots of caramel malt. Like the aroma, the smoked flavor is complex and integrates well with the other flavors. At no point does it get overpowering though it is taxing on the palate for my taste.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest level of carbonation. Overall nice stuff for what it is. Smoked beer fans will want to hop all over this.
