This oak-aged gentle giant has been gaining popularity over the past few years and is now available year-round.
For Burton Baton, we brew two "threads," or batches, of beer: an English-style old ale and an imperial IPA.
After fementating the beers separately in our stainless tanks, they're transferred and blended together in one of our large oak tanks. Burton Baton sits on the wood for about a month.
When enjoying the Burton Baton, you'll find an awesome blend of the citrus notes from Northwestern hops melding with woody, vanilla notes from the oak. The wood also tends to mellow the 10% ABV of Burton, so tread cautiously!

My scores are all over the place on this one, but like many Dogfish Head brews, it is a tough one to pin down.
Pours a very non-transparent, golden orange.
Not a bunch going on with the aroma. Smell some oak barrel, a little bready malt, citrusy hops, and alcohol.
The oak really comes through in the flavor along with some zesty lemon, grapefruit, and piney hops, then finishes with a vanilla, biscuit and carmel like smooth malt that is sweet and somewhat sugar like. Thicker bodied with stickiness to it. For me this sits somewhere between an american barleywine and an old ale. I would describe it as a hoppy Founder's Old Curmudgeon without the molasses.
I have really enjoyed every beer of theirs that I have had and this one is no different. Really curious to age some and see what they taste like with faded hops. If you are looking for a big distinctive beer that delivers on the oak, I would recommend.
Edit: As it ages, the wood flavor starts to dominate even more. It is like chewing/sucking on oak staves. The hoppiness really holds up well, but offers more bitterness than flavor. It smells and tastes very sweet. Vanilla and a rock candy like sugar. I have had it up to 21 months. It is definitely an American Barleywine/hoppy Old Ale at this point, but still quite enjoyable

Good balanced, smooth beer. Caramel, pine, and bread mixed together in aroma and taste. Bitterness is high but not sharp. 10% ABV? You don't notice it at all.

Golden amber color with a decent head.
Good lace and an aroma of malts, grapefruit, hops, strawberry-peach-papaya.
Taste is slightly sweet with oak, malt backbone with a sharp sting of hops that bounce all over the palate.
Mild and smooth despite the high ABV.
Medium to full bodied.
This was really good !

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a tulip glass. Dark copper-amber color, with orange highlights and orange-tinged white head that left some streaky lacing as it subsided. Aroma and flavor are malt forward, with notes of orange popping out. Very boozy, with some oaky barrel astringence. Also tons of hop bitterness. As it warms, notes of dried fruit and dark bread begin to emerge. I'd say this is to be enjoyed more as a fine cordial than as a beer. IOW, a slow sipper.

Pours a copper color. Smells of a light vanilla, probably hops, and oak. The taste was that of a clean and crisp beer. Very tasty and delicious. The 10% ABV is hidden but effective. I like it and will definitely get more when I get the next chance.
