I don’t think they’re brewing this anymore. It would be hard to find a better available malty dark beer—maybe a handful of equals. It was one of my favorites. Perfect to me.

Oak-aged done right. Abv hardly tasted. Dogfish Head rules, m'man.

This is a top-tier world class winner. This is always sold out but always buy when I find a 4pack.

Currently #10 on the top Delaware beers list and #13 on the top brown ales list.

Faint char/wood. Chocolate malt. Dark malt. Caramel.

Some bourbon but not a mind-blowing presence...I don't get toasted white oak, coconut, or the like.

It's a nice bourbon barrel ale, but the wood isn't as emphasized as I'd like and it doesn't compare favorably to the best bourbon barrel aged dark ales out there (e.g. Founders'). Alcohol presence is evident.

I think I prefer the base beer...the bourbon barrel is drowning out what I liked about it and the bourbon barrel notes aren't fantastic.

Had on tap. Incredibly dark brown pour with tan foam and specks. Smell has that wonderfully expressive wood with raisin, vanilla, bread pudding, molasses, and bourbon booze. Taste has those same great flavors, with some char, toffee, chocolate, and brown sugar. Ironically the smell is not as complex as the original, but the taste is much better. Feel has the wood and booze well represented, with chewy creaminess.

On tap at Uno.

LOOK: Jet black, minimal head. Thick look.
TASTE: Sweet grape and raisin, wood, black cherry.
BBA is very apparent.
FEEL: A touch astringent and pretty boozy. Thinner than it looks.

On tap at the new and improved Dogfish Head Brewing & Eats.
Pours a jet black color, viscous and evokes a motor oil appearance. A thin creamy tan head, quickly dissipates, yet yields a thin ring of lacing throughout.
The nose emits notes of alcohol spiced nutty and biscuity malt. Notes of dark chocolate, dark caramel, espresso, bourbon, vanilla and oak.
Complex taste that is sweet and boozy, yet drinkable. Flavors of nutty and biscuity malts, dark caramel, honey, and brown sugar. Notes of jammy dark fruit, particularly raisins. The alcohol adds bourbon like flavors, woody and with notes of vanilla. A light roasted malt and earthy hops bitterness lends some balance.
Full bodied with a dry finish. Smooth and soft mouthfeel with a gentle carbonation.
It’s been a while since I’ve had the original Palo Santo, so it’s hard to compare. This one was pretty good.
