Our Golden Tea Inspired Oat-Cream Ale.

All dressed up and ready to go, Costumes and Karaoke is our latest off-centered ale that’s as flavorful and unique as your Thursday night karaoke performance!

What started as a Beer Exploration Journal exclusive in our Milton Tasting Room, quickly stole the show and rose to the top as a guest favorite. Which could only mean one thing … we had to bottle up that goodness and take it on the road for all to enjoy!

Taking inspiration from the traditional Indian beverage ‘Golden Milk,’ this Imperial Cream Ale is brewed with an oat cream base using a blend of equitably sourced, single-origin spices from our pales at Burlap and Barrel in NYC. That spice blend includes a complex mingling of vanilla beans, ginger, turmeric, star anise, cardamom and cinnamon.

The result? An 8% ABV creamy concoction that’s chock full of sweet and spice, and everything nice.

I think this one aged a bit, though it doesn't have any off flavors or scents, it just might have had its adjuncts fade. Regardless, it tastes like a cream ale, certainly, but with a lot of spice. The character of the spice is not particularly discernible, however, though the turmeric certainly comes out with its somewhat subtle taste. The overall character fits the bill for a pumpkin ale, especially given the spice mixture. It's an interesting beer very similar to a spicy pumpkin beer.

pours a golden amber with a medium head. nose; immediately reminded of dfh's own midas touch - honey, dinner roll, banana 'now & later' candy, tea, & wheat/oat. taste; oat malt, light honey, black tea, easy citrus hops, vanilla, light cinnamon, nutmeg & ginger. definitely an odd mix for a beer, but kinda grows on you and gets spicier and almost curry-like as you keep digging. medium carbonation & mouthfeel. this is what midas touch would taste like if more baking spices were thrown at it.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours a golden color with a one-finger foamy white head that reduces to a ring

S- initially smells like a pumpkin beer mixed with chai tea; cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, even some turmeric and star anise. There's a sweet milky vanilla note undertone, adding to the chai tea

T- an array of spices up front with cinnamon, cardamom and ginger leading the way, along with star anise and some turmeric spice. Mid-palate gives a milky lactose note that adds a vanilla cream note. The finish gives more spices that linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns creamy into the finish

I expected not to like this given the unusual list of ingredients, but nonetheless I was intrigued because I trust DFH, and the price for the 4-pack of bottles was right.....in I go...slightly sweet but not cloying, a bit of bready grains and classic beer flavor mid-palate, finishes like a lush chardonnay. Justifiably intriguing and worth repeating

Bottled on 08-28-20.

A - Pours a hazy medium orange color with lots of floaties and thin, dense lacing.

S - Cardamon and ginger rule the nose with a little bit of anise and mustard.

T - Cardamon, a little bit of star anise, ginger, licorice, cinnamon, and a sweet malt base that struggles to poke through over top of a barrage of spices. On the very back side there's a slight bit of vanilla that surfaces for a brief moment but you really have to dig to find it.

M - Thick, silky body with a slight bit of burn on the tongue.

O - Smells better than it tastes. Then again, it's a little over a year old at this point.

I liked this beer overall. My problem with it was that literally every bottle I opened foamed over. From the first bottle after I got it home to the bottle I opened after it sat still in the cabinet for a week, it's a zero fail beer bomb. Tastes great and luckily smells pretty good because it got on a number of things. Feels fine drinking, pretty sticky on the hands. Maybe open it over a sink like I should have.

This beer is so different from what most breweries are doing atm — I really appreciate the deviation from the handful of styles that have come to dominate the scene. Having no idea what to expect going in is nice, too. The beer is indeed reminiscent of a lightly sweetened Indian milk tea. Really pleasant and drinkable beer — maybe a bit of sweet cloy is the slight complaint. Ultimately, cheers to something different.

Pours a clear golden caramel color. A fingernail length head dissipates and yields a thin film.

Rich malt aromas of honey, caramel, toffee and toasted bread are supplemented by an array of spices, including, vanilla, cardamom, and ginger. Eatery aromas of dark and light fruit include dates, figs, raisin and vinous alcohol spices.

Opens sweet with notes of honey and biscuity malts, lightly nutty, and creamy oats. Interesting adjunct flavors of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and vanilla bean pair well with the sweet alcohol spices throughout, which are warming but not too boozy. Lots of fruity esters include white raisin, dates, figs and white grape. The finish is smooth and semi dry with spicy flavors and sweet notes of alcohol going down. moderate

Medium to full bodied. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth; very chewy and mouth coating. The moderate carbonation keeps the mouthfeel lively.

This was fun! It was complex with interesting spices and a bit of alcohol warmth. Yet, it was relatively easy to drink.

Cream ale. The name brings me back to high school and cases of Genesee for less than five, (I think more like 3.50) bucks. It was tasty blue collar beer that we could scrape up out of the couch cushions.

This is a complete re- imagining of the style. Slightly hazy, golden tinted light brown with a couple of fingers of off-white gently fading head

Nose is incredible. Rich with sweet vanilla, ginger, cardamom and toasted malt. A bit of alcohol sharpness.

Taste is out of this world. It redefines what a cream ale can be. Think cream soda meets Indian spice cabinet. Sweet and malty with a melange of exotic and delicious surprises. Mild earthy hops perfectly balance and dry out the finish. Clean and herbal spice notes lightly lingering.

Feel is smooth and creamy. A crispness that belies its weight. Carbonation is so perfect, making the beer full and supple while remaining unexpectedly light on the tongue. Easy to drink this like a lawn mower beer.

This is a new favorite beer. It takes the style and elevates it. It introduces so many possibilities and flavors. Simply outstanding

12oz bottled on 08/28/2020. Sample from the brewery. Found this one on the back of the fridge. Let's see how it's holding up!

Poured in a BeerAdvocate Teku. Bronze with a slight haziness and a creamy lace that sticks to the glass a bit. Massive aroma! Tons of licorice, cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, and mint. First sip is velvety smooth, super creamy, near full-bodied, with a slight, syrupy chewiness. All of the mentioned aromas are packed into the flavor and then joined by vanilla, golden raisins, and suggestions of sugar cookies. Pistachio? Almond? There this nut meets liquor thing going on here, and I like it. Herbal, spicy, peppery finish with an oily feel on the palate.

Damn. Reminiscent of a cold chai tea latte, this sweet and spicy concoction from Dogfish Head is delicious AF!

Semi hazy bronze. Smell is turmeric and mint. Very inviting tastes is cardamom. Nutmeg. Turmeric is heavy. Minty. Reminds me of pumpkin almost. Semi dry. Feel is crispy clean. This is odd. Not sure how to feel but leaving towards positive.
