Shadow & Substance was brewed as a dark sour ale base, fermented with Brettanomyces Drei and Brettanomyces Brux, and aged for 18 months in used red wine barrels. After being finished with cherries, figs and cascara for tart flavors of cherries, dark fruits and cocoa, it was bottle conditioned for a bright and effervescent carbonation.

Pours a murky dark reddish brown, minimal head. Aroma is super sour funky cherry. Very funky and acidic, I get the cherry mostly. Very acidic, light carbonation. Overall it is tasty but way too acidic.

A- A dark brownish with a small tan head.

S- Tart, cherries, some figs, oak, lovely undertones of coffee and cocoa, touch of wine, some leather.

T- Sour, cherries, some coffee, figs, red wine, oak, hints of chocolate, touch of leather.

M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A tasty sour, base seems to be a nice Flanders ale and the extra ingredients and barrel work well with it.

Pours a very dark color with a slight head and lacing
Aroma has generous Brett, cherries, figs, cascara, coffee, cocoa and red wine hints
The taste follows the nose with a nicely balanced sour cherry, fig, cascara, coffee, cocoa and red wine flavor
A medium bodied decently carbonated beer
An exceptional red wine barrel aged Wild Ale
