Mango SmoovieMango Smoovie
Notes: Inspired by the fruit-based Indian drink lassi, Mango Smoovie is a tart ale brewed with boatloads of mango and tangerine, lactose, vanilla, a touch rose water and yellow cardamom. The result is a fruit-forward libation with sweet mango and vanilla flavor on the front and a subtle, warm spice finish.

Aroma is mangoes and big perfumed/sweetness. The flavor is tangerines/mangoes, malts, tropical fruit/pineapple and a medium sweet/sugar/slightly spicy finish.

Hardly any head, very seltzer like. Appearance is mango juice. Smell is ripened fruit- mango and orange. Taste is citric acid and tart, diluted orange followed by a mango sweetness on the finish. Feel and finish are very dry. The sourness is at a good level, but I think a little more sweet would go a long ways.

12oz bottle into a pint mug. Best by October 2021.

Looks decent enough. Thick orange body. Small head fizzes out to a fat ring. No lacing to speak of.

Mango aroma, little else.

On tasting, it's way more tart than sweet, quite sour in fact. Quite fruity and citrusy

Mouth medium to full, finish bittersweet tart.

Overall, was hoping for a bit more sweetness for some balance. One of these at a time would be more than enough.

Best By date September 2021. Let warm for about 15 minutes before opening.

Murky deep golden-orange, with slight, quickly-dissipating head.

Smells of mango , creamy vanilla , acetic sourness, and a little lime zest. There is a little spiciness that is reminiscent of rice pudding with nutmeg, that I'm assuming is cardamom.

Taste is mango, vanilla, cardamom, and lime, as in the aroma, but with a different order of prominence. Light sourness, that is well-balanced by the lactose and vanilla.

Feel light-medium, juicy, with moderate , very fine carbonation tingle.

Overall, I'm not sure I'd want more than one at a time, it's pretty good, especially on this warm spring day.

Look: Completely opaque, swampy orange. A tiny off-white head that immediately fizzes away into nothing.

Smell: Quite sour and acidic. Hard to find any mango notes.

Taste: Less tart and acidic than the nose. Mild mango flavor, acetic sourness, and a lightly creamy sweet finish. Aftertaste is mildly sour and metallic.

Mouthfeel: Creamy smooth with decent carbonation.

Overall: One of Dogfish Head's less interesting experiments.

this is really good, unexpected, although all the new dogfish stuff has been fruited of late, so i guess not shocking, but this is creative stuff, only just moderately tart, clean there and not at all acidic enough to limit drinkability. the mango is in front of the tangerine for me in nose and taste, but almost in a generic sweet pulpy sort of way, the tangerine is also robust though, necessary for some light bitter balance and a little oily essence. i get the concept of the beer, but as is often the case with my tastes, i could do without the vanilla and the lactose together, one of the other would be fine, but it gets desserty with both. the vanilla isnt overdone or anything, and actually is the bridge between the fruit and the rosewater and cardamom elements, so it plays a necessary role here, but with the milk sugar its too sweet, especially combined with the mango, and its the sweet not the sour that makes me not want to have a whole sixer of these. the rosewater and cardamom are more expressive in nose than taste, but make this dynamic and distinctive there too, floral and exotic, summery too somehow, very creative integration of elements. i wish it were a little drier, but its on brand for these guys, who always do weird things well. a fun one to share with my homie, a killer monday surprise, dogfish head has been on a roll lately!

I don't know if it this was a case of how it was served on tap but this beer had no carbonation, no beer lacing. This was more of a mango citrus drink with some beer rather a beer that had some mango notes. One of the worst beers I have had from dogfish head, and I have had many. I like most of dogfish head beers. I am perplexed by this beer and maybe dogfish is stooping to the lazy hazy fruit beers. One and done. Not my style.

hot dog. finally another weird one outta Dogfish. let's gooooo!

pours a super thick and hazy grapefruit or apple juice looking body, a pale burnt-orange almost. the head is excited but lasts all of 3 seconds before disappearing entirely, leaving only a few fairly large sud-looking-bubbles and showing no lacing whatsoever. if that sounds terrible, you're wrong - my mouth is watering.

aroma is a super clean and funky and juicy and floral mango. it's super floral (thanks rose water; little goes a long way!) and there's a touch of spice that complicates things. then there are spritzy citrus fireworks going off sporadically, launching the tangerine forward. this is all surrounded by a subtle lactose hug and capped with aromatic and earthy vanilla. WHOA.

taste follows that up but with the juice cranked to 11. this is THICCC juicy af and then some like c'mon. that citrus and vanilla and spice and lactose funk truly kick this thing to another dimension. like, why is mango juice not just like this already? it oughta be. BEAUTIFUL.

mouthfeel is juicy with lower-mid-level carbonation and medium-thicc body that runs smooth and a little pithy and finishing slightly crisp and clean with an aromatic and funky aftertaste that definitely reminds you what you just drank for like the next several moments.

it's one complicated mango and I love the hell out of it. been waiting for a dogfish that weirded up close to how they rolled during that weird run around 2014-16 really getting out there with flavor combos. this checked all the boxes and landed beautifully, even giving me an IDEAL or benchmark on how I perceive mango in beer, which was already one of my favorite flavors/fruits to find in brews as it was. again, that vanilla and spice and citrus and slight lactose really just took this thing to the moon for me. 10 outta 10 would do again, and aggressively suggest that you too, dear reader, make the leap and go in on that full pack instead of the single. if you're here, digging mango and maybe looking for dogfish head to stretch it out a bit, this is it, your sign for the good time.

I once had a pulled pork sandwich with a mango curry chutney. That's exactlywhat this Dogfish Head beer tastes like, minus the pulled pork.

Matte in its finish and milky in its look, the orange stained beer looks exactly like the childhood "Tang" instant drink. As its loose froth starts to fall, the nose is rife with achingly ripe mango along with a bevy of accompanying citrus, tropical and melon scents. Spicy with a blend of curry, chai and vanilla, the nose soon gives way to a creamy-sweet upstart in taste with impressions of taffy, fruit tartlet and poundcake.

As the fruity and spicy Mango Smoovie races across the middle palate, it sheds its creaminess in favor of a lighter, chalkier and powder-fine character. A strong tea-like tannic value comes with the cardamom's curry-like tendencies while the strong mango presence offers a pleasantly tart, racy and exotic taste. With a rounded complement of light cream, candy and softer spices, a floral finish highlights the rose water character in a surprisingly firm nuance that stands up to the stronger spices and fruit.

Tasty, unique and becoming quite a challenge to the palate and the mind, Mango Smoovie is an ale that's been clearly "dogfished" in a way that only Dogfish Head can, finishing oddly light and dangerously watery with a medium-length afterglow of that mango curry chutney.

A vibrant, saffron yellow that’s cloudy, like freshly juiced mango. Dons a cap of sudsy, sugar-white foam that ducks out faster than a senator faced with a public wellness initiative. No retention means no lace.

Spicy! Tart fruits under a heavy dusting of yellow cardamom with a baby sniffle of roses and vanilla hiding behind it.

A lightweight medium that’s equal parts supple and refreshing. Mild carbonation enhances the tickle of spices and tarts on the tongue. Slightly sweet.

A mouthful of just-ripe mango, rolled in yellow cardamom, chased by a sip of tart orange juice. Subtly suffused with vanilla, lactose and rosewater that sand the edges off the spice, successfully imparting the illusion of a smoothie.

Leave it to Dogfish Head to take the trend of milkshake/smoothie sours and make it into something even weirder, with mango, tangerine, lactose, vanilla, rose water, and yellow cardamom brewed into it. I have a feeling that this will differentiate it enough from the other beers of the substyle, which I tend not to enjoy very much. I have pretty high hopes that this one will be good though

Pours a hazy and glowing orange gold with 2 fingers of soapy white head that fades to a thin ring and leaves no lacing

Upon first smell of this beer, I'm getting more spice than anything else, reminding me a bit of a gose with heavy coriander. I'm picking up on aromas of floral cardamom, coriander, light cinnamon, orange juice, and sweet vanilla

The sweet and spice carry through in flavor, which actually amplifies the delicate fruitiness. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting tart mango, orange juice, coriander, and some doughy malt. The swallow brings notes of sweet cardamom, juicy tangerine, coriander, and a hint of vanilla

A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a lightly tart beer balanced by sweetness. Finishes off dry with a subtle tart bite to cut through the slight stickiness

This is one of their better experimental beers without a doubt. I could honestly see myself drinking a decent amount of this beer over the summer
