Dela-We-Are is a statewide collaboration beer aimed at raising funds and awareness for the Delaware Brewers Guild. Our offering doubles down on the Delaware pride using malt produced here in the First State along with our favorite bagels from our favorite bagel shop Surf Bagel.
Chopped pumpernickel bagels are blended with malted rye, black wheat malt and sweet, caramelly crystal rye malt kneading up a base for copious amounts of spicy, citrussy hops, caraway seeds and black pepper.

I bought a 4 pack of this beer at Dogfish Head’s store in Rehoboth. I really love rye whiskey, so I’ve been wanting to find a rye beer for a long time. I was very surprised to find this as their current Rehoboth exclusive.
Pours a very dark brown with a dark tan head. Nothing crazy on the nose, smells like a typical IPA. The texture, however, is probably one of the most interesting thing about this beer. From the color, I would expect a very heavy, full body, but it’s actually fairly light. It has an extremely silky mouthfeel, and while I don’t usually use this word in reviews, I think “smooth” is a perfect description. The flavor is exactly what you would expect. It’s an IPA with lots of rye (mostly bread type) and slight caraway flavors. The label also lists black pepper as an ingredient, and I think I taste a hint, but it’s super subtle. It all works really well in my opinion. If you’re a fan of rye bread and live near by, I definitely recommend picking this up.
