07/28/07- Had on tap at the El Toro Brewery in Morgan Hill, CA.
Presentation- Via the tap into (2) 4oz samplers.
Appearance- Caramel brown in color with a 1/4 inch creamy light off white head. Leaves light lace streaks.
Smell- Decent amount of rich caramel, some light hops and maybe a touch of smoke?
Taste- Caramel which is semi sweet, but not quite enough to blow you away. Good hop presence, but a touch too bitter ber style.
Mouthfeel- Pretty smooth drinking brew with a lower than avg carbonation level.
Drinkability- All in all a pretty good barleywine...if only some of the flavors were pushed up and the hops pushed a bit down. Still very good.
