07/28/07- Had on tap at the El Toro Brewery in Morgan Hill, CA.
Presentation- Via the tap into (2) 4oz tasters.
Appearance- Medium black colored pour with a 1/2 inch off white chocolate brown colored head. Left decent lace spotting.
Smell- What you would expect....deep dark malts with a decent chocolate nose as well as a touch of coffee notes.
Taste- Pretty good malt sweetness with a coaco like dusting flavor. Coffee beans intermixed with the chocolate flavor as well.
Mouthfeel- Very well carbonated....Quite foamy on the swallow. Light hoppy bitterness.
Drinkability- Get the carbonation issue in order and you have yourself a pretty nice RIS. Not sure of the abv, but it seems to be an easy drinker. Guessing around 8% or so.
