07/28/07- Had on tap at the El Toro Brewery in Morgan Hill, CA.
Presentation- Via the nitro tap into (2) 4oz tasters.
Appearance- Deep black in color. Very small rim of a head with light watery lace marks.
Smell- Scents of oaky vanilla as well as heavily roasted malts.
Taste- Really can taste the vanilla-whiskey flavors. Not too overpowering, but the flavor comes out really good. A nice sharp and short lasting hop bitterness comes into play also. A bit of chocolate as well.
Mouthfeel- Smooth, but just a touch watery. Zilch in the carbonation catagory.
Drinkability- Easy drinker. Tastes really nothing like their regular oatmeal stout, and that is the base of this beer supposedly. A lot less chocolate and more vanilla flavors. Reminds me more of a irish dry stout than an oatmeal.
