Flora Brewing is a LA-based homebrewer turned pro, currently a tenant brewer at Pilot Project. Flora is unique in that the brewer is not local and currently working on opening a brewery in Washington state. I guess they fly in just to brew here every once in awhile? Surely there are contract-brewing options on the west coast...
Just like all tenant brewers at Pilot Project, they are woefully underrepresented in the taproom. The vibe here is minimal and limited to just one beer from Flora, Blossom Tonic saison in cans. A creative recipe with cherry juice, rosemary, and coriander, it has some room to improve in execution. Impossible to judge a brewery from a single beer though, time will tell what develops.
Staff interaction was limited to the bar. Easy enough to order online and pickup at the bar, to avoid the QR code menu nonsense. Ordering beer on draft is a different story.
With a heavy social media presence, a homebrewing podcast, and 60K followers across various platforms, Flora is poised to be the first ever “beer influencer” founded brewery. Shh, don’t tell the BA forum curmudgeons…
