The idea for Wulfaven Brewing Co. started back in 2017. Joseph Lazzara and his father, Santo Lazzara, concocted the dream of one day owning their own brewery after being in the industry for a combined 30+ years. Fast forward two years to 2019 and the idea started to become a reality! The location was secured, the family hopped onboard, and everything was moving forward. Until it wasn’t.

Covid-19 decided to make its debut and once businesses started shutting down, it was an uncertain time for Wulfaven. Joseph and Santo were able to keep working behind the scenes of 2020, and that hard work paid off greatly. Groundbreaking of the Perez Drive property began at the end of 2021 and we are thrilled to bring you your new neighborhood watering hole!

Our tap list will be a combination of all things crisp and clean. Of course, also we’ll be slinging some juicy and bitter IPAs and pale ales for all of you hop chasers out there! All in all, we plan on bringing you crushable beers that pair well with date nights and friendly hangouts. Everything that we’ve ever wanted and loved in a brewery, we will hopefully bring to you at Wulfaven Brewing.

The question we get asked most often is about the meaning of our name. ‘Wulfaven” is a combination of two words: Wolf and Haven. The wolf is a symbol representing many things. Our favorites are a teacher, the sharing of knowledge, and a never-ending journey. Of course, wolves also depend on their pack and so do we. Our family, friends, and the community are our inner circle. Without them, we wouldn’t have made it this far.

The second word, haven, is our safe place. Our third home. The place where we can gather with our wolfpack and unwind from the day. Our mission at Wulfaven Brewing Co. is to create quality craft beer with fresh ingredients and create an inclusive space our community can gather. Welcome to our wolfpack!

Towards the north side of Tampa, Wulfaven is one of many data points that the beer scene in the city is strong, with Wulfaven taking a focus on lagers. We got to the taproom late on Tuesday night, not long before last call, and we greeted with a mostly empty crowd, but enough room to hold a hundred people in the taproom. The “C” shaped bar takes focus, with a chalkboard listing off to the near side, listing 15 different taps. If you look for pilsner, festbier, Baltic Porter, Imperial Pilsner, helles alongside IPA’s and a witbier, then what I saw should make you happy here. But more importantly is the beer itself, and I found both my witbier and Imperial Pilsner to be appetizing. The bartender of the night was nice to allow us to stay a little after closing time to finish our beers and speaking our thoughts. All told, Wulfaven makes for a fine stop in this part of Tampa.

Went on second weekend upon opening on a Sunday and the place was packed but thankfully they had a few outside seats on the shaded patio and plenty of parking. Had a dozen or so of own beers and some guest taps, and from what I can tell they rotate both on frequent basis but since just opened don't know if guest beers will stay or be phased out. Some variety of style, although mainly some IPAs, Oktoberfest beers and a couple sours, but again they just opened so that isn't a demerit. Service was as fast as possible considering that place was packed (it's got a lot of seating so packed doesn't mean 20 people in a closet), and the beers I had were good so this place is worth checking out if in the area (and there isn't any other brewery real close by anyway).
