Quinta de la Rosa "La Rose IPA"
on tap @ Cozinha Da Clara / Quinta De La Rosa on 25.11.2024
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's been delivered to the table in a stemless wine glass. The body is a hazy yellow gold beneath a finger’s width of white foam. I was not expecting any have, but OK. It displays very good head retention initially, lasting at least through the first few sips. The lacing, however, is average. Is this a dirty glass? Probably not. I should note, however, that the bartender seemed to be having a terrible time pouring it, and was using a warming pan to collect the excess foam. He dumped it and started over at least once, and I think twice, so perhaps it would have a better appearance if it had been poured by someone who knew what they were doing. It offers a limited aroma with some malt but little in the way of hops. The hops that are there are woody, piney, citrusy, floral, and earthy. The taste follows exactly but with some additional yeast and the acidity that comes with it. It tastes “green” in my opinion, and out of balance because of it. The bitterness balances it along with the acidity and it finishes dry, bitter, and acidic with some pine lingering. Overall the malt seems dull, and the hops are certainly lacking in both aroma and flavor. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp, but also slightly astringent. I was expecting a lot more in terms of quality. There's certainly been a lot of money put into the entire operation but their beers haven't benefited from it at all. Sad.
