Aguarela Beer Co. "2 Anniversary"
440 ml can coded "L1111 1206 E0325" and sampled on 21-11-2024
9,40€ @ Artesanalis Loja De Cerveja Artesanal LDA, Lisboa, Portugal
Notes via stream of consciousness: "Dry Hopped with Simcoe, Mosaic, Nelson Sauvin, and Motueka". A very hazy golden body is capped by a finger's width of white foam. In the nose I'm finding moderate notes of peach, gooseberry, and lemon/lime. The taste is sweet with grainy and bready malt, oats, lots of peachy hops, and a spritz of alcohol. Additional notes include the lemon/lime found in the aroma, some orange, a bit of berry, passionfruit, some pine, and grapefruit. A median bitterness balances it leaving it sweetish upfront but fairly dry in the conclusion with the alcohol helping to dry it. It's really well rounded, and nicely balanced for a IPA of 8.5% ABV. I'd call this a juicy double New England style IPA. In the mouth it's medium bodied and silky smooth with a lot of extra proteins and a moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation. As it warms I'm getting more alcohol coming through but it's not harsh. The head held up fairly well to start with, which was good given that it's 8.5%, and the lacing is decent. I'm currently in Lisboa, Portugal, the home of Aguarela, and I'm now inspired to seek out more of their beers so I'm off to Outro Lado to see what they've got on tap.
