Picked up a single pint can. Date on can 01/09/2025. Love the packaging and the name!
Pours an almost opaque black in color with a lovely finger thick tan head on top with solid retention. Carbonation is hard to see but seems to be the small creamy variety as you swish the beer around in the glass. Looking good!
Aroma is roasty, yeasty and nutty with a hint of chocolate and brown sugar and some hoppiness lurking in the background. It even smells chewy!
The taste follows the nose well. Roasted malts predominate along with hints of chocolate and subtle, floral, lemon zest to balance it out. There might be some dark fruitiness in there as well, but if so it's very, very subtle. Finishes with a lingering roasted maltiness on the tongue.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a solid amount of chewiness. Drinks smooth and creamy with just a hint of zest on the swallow. Slightly dry, but not entirely so. Very drinkable.
Wow, this is an excellent schwarzbier. Flavorful, balanced, drinkable. One of the best I've had from the states. Also my first beer from this brewing company. Really good stuff, will happily seek this one out again. Prost!
